New "Annie" Film Produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith (Video)

by: April D. Byrd

The trailer for The highly anticipated remake of "Annie" finally hit the internet. The remake of the classic 1982  film stars Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx, and Cameron Diaz. The film will also feature modern remakes of the signature songs "Hard Knock Life" and "Tomorrow".

The story line features Jamie Foxx as Billionaire Benjamin Stacks, and Quvenzhané Wallis who captured our hearts in "Beasts Of The Southern Wild" in the title role of Annie. As the story goes Stacks, a politician initially uses Annie as a prop to advance his political career, but has a change of heart when the bond between him and Annie (Wallis) grows stronger.

No word on whether Jay-Z's infamous 1998 Hard Knock Life sample made the cut in the new film, but he does serve as a producer along with Will Smith. "Annie" starts playing in theaters on Christmas Day. Until then check out the first official trailer: (Below).

What are your thoughts on the remake? Do you think the Oscar Winner, and the Oscar Nominee will do it justice? Leave a Comment and join in on the discussion on Trey Anthony's Fan Page.

by: April D. Byrd

Good Morning America reporter Robin Roberts will honor Poet and Author Maya Angelou at the MLB Awards Luncheon. The Major League Baseball Association is sponsoring the luncheon along with their annual Civil Rights game on May 30th. Football legend Jim Brown and Motown Records Founder Berry Gordy will also be honored. Aloe Blacc singer of the notably illustrated "Wake Me Up" and Award-winning Violinist Miri Ben-Ari will be performing.

The MLB Awards Luncheon will pay tribute to people who fight for equal rights and honor the history of racial progress. Roberts will be the keynote speaker for the event.  The Civil Rights Game will be played by the Houston Astros and the Baltimore Orioles in Houston, TX. and will air on the MLB network.

Robin is so strong and she's definitely staying busy, She's also returning to the Oscar's red carpet for the first time since her health crisis.
"To Have My Mojo Back and to be here at  the Oscars. I hope it symbolizes to people who are going through maybe their own personal struggle, whatever it is, to know that this too shall pass."
--Roberts told KMBC-tv in an interview.

Total Eclipse Of The Heart: (Parenting Style)

The other night Wife and I went to a birthday celebration for an old friend (as in long-time, not as in her age).  Anyway, it was a night of Karaoke in one of those awesome private rooms so that you and your friends can totally indulge and don’t have to share the Karaoke spotlight with anyone other than your group.  Brilliant!

So sitting with a friend, who I actually have not seen since she became a mama two years ago, she pointed out that Total Eclipse of the Heart by the much loved Bonnie Tyler, could ostensibly be a song about parenting.  Yes!  Of course.  To prove this, I have recorded my own version of Total Eclipse of the Heart.  Wife, has kindly agreed to make an appearance.  She’s amazing.  We both are.  You’ll be shocked that, despite our musical pasts, we now only sing at home and in private Karaoke rooms.

Are there any other songs out there that could serve as a parenting metaphor?  Share your submissions in the comments.

Black and Single

I was just thinking to myself "I wonder what happened to the Awkward Black Girl series?" and then I stumbled upon this on Madam Noire's site.  There is a new comedic web series that has recently hit youtube.com and I think it's worth checking out.

It's called Black and Single -- an Atlanta based web series that follows men and womyn as they try to make sense of the dating scene...something we can all relate to.

The actual premise is:

“Black & Single is a web-series that follows the lives of Oni and Jesse. Two young, single and black professionals that work in the same office building and are seemingly perfect for each other. There is one problem. They never meet. They intersect each others lives at hilarious and various moments while searching for love when true love passes them by every day unwittingly. Will they ever meet? Only time will tell.”

The series only has 2 episodes out so far, but they seem to be posting bi-weekly and who knows where it will go.

If you need a good laugh, click on the video (there is a little language in the video, just to let you know).

Let me know your thoughts...did you like it?  Will you keep up with it?

It's Not Unusual

It was bound to happen!  Alfonso Ribeiro leads a flash mob in LA featuring the 'Carlton Dance' (of course).  I couldn't help but smile when I saw this video.  **I love how the crowd trying to record the flash mob is trying to dance as well.** It brought me back to the 90s for a few minutes....it was such a different time in the world.  Don't get me wrong, I life now - we've come a long way on many things, but the 90s were special.  The music was richer, the TV shows weren't ALL 'reality', it was just...nice.  I guess this is how our parents feel when they reminisce.  And it worries me to see what this generation has to 'look back on'....then I wonder where we're going as a society.  Looks like I'm in reflection mode today.  Lots on my mind.  Nonetheless enjoy the video and smile it's a beautiful day!
